EEG Lab - How to
Alongside the EEG systems, we have the following equipment available for research purposes: stimulus presentation computer, screen, and various responses devices.
Wired EEG (actiCHamp)
This is best suited for typical EEG experiments where the participant remains seated.
For more information on this system please see this link.
Alternatively manuals can be downloaded from here.
HOW TO USE
Starting up
Ensure the battery is charged
Ensure the electrodes and cap are both clean and dry

Setting up the cap
Measure head to size the cap (circumference) and distance between the nasion to inion (mark 10% value).
Select cap size and place on the head (GND should be over the 10% mark), securing the chin strap UNDER the chin.
Part the hair under electrode holders so scalp is visible.
If using an abrasive paste/gel, gently abrade the scalp under electrode holders.
Insert a small amount of gel into the centre of each holder.
Carefully slide electrodes into their numbered holder, turn the holders so wires are going towards the back of the head.
Secure electrodes to the participants clothing with the clip.
Gently tighten the white toggles on electrode bundles and secure the bundles to the side of the cap with its velcro ties (minimises wire bobbling).
Slide GND electrode into holder and plug connector end into amplifier.
Plug the main electrode connector into the amplifier.
Removing the cap
Unplug electrode connectors from amplifier.
Carefully remove electrodes from the holders.
Undo the chin strap, then peel pack cap, supporting the hair as you do so.
Cleaning the cap
Ensure the connectors are far from the sink (DO NOT get wet).
Carefully untangle electrode wires and separate into bundles.
Gently clean off excess gel from the electrode heads with lukewarm water then hang to dry.
Clean cap with a mild detergent/shampoo, rinsing off then hanging to dry.
EEG-fMRI (BrainAmp)
This is for simultaneous EEG and fMRI recording whilst within the MRI environment.

Mobile EEG (Smarting PRO X)
This is for experiments that may require some level of movement during the task.
